What You’ll Need
Before you begin, make sure you’re using fresh, organic rose petals—grown without chemicals and safe for culinary use. We recommend using Magnolia’s Yarden edible roses, harvested with care specifically for this purpose.
Ingredients:
Fresh, pesticide-free rose petals
½ cup granulated sugar
½ cup water
A splash of lemon juice (to prevent discoloration)
Optional: edible glitter or natural food coloring for added charm
How to Crystallize Rose Petals
Step 1: Prep the Petals
Gently rinse the rose petals in cool water and pat them dry with a clean towel. Choose petals that are firm, vibrant, and unblemished.
Step 2: Make the Syrup
In a small saucepan, combine equal parts water and sugar (we like ½ cup each). Heat over medium, stirring until the sugar dissolves completely. Add a splash of lemon juice—this helps preserve the color and adds a bit of brightness.
Step 3: Dip and Dry
Using tweezers or clean fingers, dip each petal into the warm syrup. Let the excess drip off, then place the petals on a wire rack or parchment-lined tray. Arrange in a single layer and let them air dry for several hours, or overnight, until they’re crisp to the touch.
✿ Optional: While petals are still slightly sticky, dust with a pinch of edible glitter or a hint of natural food coloring for extra sparkle.
How to Use Crystallized Rose Petals
